PHYCOMYCIN SCP CHEMISTRY & MODE OF ACTION

APPLICATION RATES:

• Is used at dosages between 3 and 100 lbs per acre-foot for control of nuisance algae, providing concentrations between 0.3 and 10.2 ppm hydrogen peroxide, respectively.

• SCP is unique from other commonly used aquatic application products in terms of being a water soluble granule texture with very quick reactivity and a very short-term residual.   Based upon these factors and its mode of action as an oxidizer of organic materials (i.e. contact algaecide), SCP must be delivered immediately after dissolving or in its original granular form directly to the targeted algae growth in order to be effective.  Control failure or very high use rates required to achieve control can result from ineffective product delivery.  Surface broadcast granules dissolve and form the active hydrogen peroxide within the upper few feet of water, leaving any deeper suspended algae and benthic algae untreated.  In conjunction with the introduction of this chemistry, Applied Biochemists is developing application systems to improve handling, accuracy and efficacy with SCP.
