CLEARIGATE FACT SHEET
TECHNICAL SERVICE REPORT NO. 253-398
EPA Reg. No. 8959-51 Pat. # 5,407,899
Registered for use in:
Crop and Non-Crop Irrigation Conveyance Systems: Ditches, Canals and Laterals; Potable water Reservoirs; Lakes Farm, Fish, Golf Course, Industrial and Swimming Ponds
WHAT IS CLEARIGATE?
CLEARIGATE is a chelated copper formulation containing an emulsified surfactant/penetrant for highly effective control of coarse (thick cell-walled) filamentous algae, muscilaginous (colonial) planktonic algae, Chara and a variety of emergent, floating and submerged aquatic plants. Vegetation controlled includes: Cladophora, Pithophora, Lyngbya, Microcystis, Hydrilla, pondweeds, watermilfoil, naiad and other species having a sensitivity to copper absorption in conjunction with a penetrant.
BASIC FACTS CLEARIGATE:
  • Is a liquid formulation containing 3.825% active ingredient.
  • Contains 0.31 pounds of copper per gallon.
  • Has a specific gravity of 1.1 - 1.3 (10-11 lbs. per gallon).
  • Controls algae at 0.1 to 0.8 ppm copper and aquatic plants at 0.5 to 1.0 ppm copper.
ADVANTAGES
  • Has no water use restrictions during or following application.
  • Is not a Federally "RESTRICTED USE" pesticide.
  • Mixes readily in the water for top-to bottom, side-to-side and downstream control.
  • Adjuvant/emulsion technology increases contact time in flowing water.
  • Saves time and money. Product can be applied by one applicator. Set up systems can be left unattended.
  • Is non-corrosive to equipment.
APPLICATION RATES:
Dosages rates of 0.1 - 0.5 ppm copper (0.3 - 1.4 qt. per cfs/hour) are used for planktonic algae. Rates of 0.2 - 0.6 ppm (0.6 - 1.7 qt. per cfs/hour) are used for filamentous algae and rates of 0.4 - 0.8 ppm copper (1.2 - 2.3 qt. per cfs/hour) for Chara and Nitella. Dosage rates of 0.5 - 1.0 ppm copper (1.4 - 2.8 qt. per cfs/hour) are used for submerged weeds.
METHOD OF APPLICATION:
CLEARIGATE can be applied by spot spray and injection from shore for low flow systems. Gravity drip systems work well for medium flow and a 12-volt metering pump set up is recommended for medium to high flow systems. Refer to use directions and charts on the CLEARIGATE label for proper calculation and calibration of treatment rates.
CONTAINER SIZES :
Is available in convenient container sizes to fit the needs of all system volumes: 5, 30 & 55 gal. drums; 275 gal. disposable totes; and Returnable Shuttles (in some locations).
TREATMENT TIPS:
  • Apply CLEARIGATE on a clear sunny day for optimum effectiveness.
  • Apply CLEARIGATE early in the season when plants are green and actively growing. Early stages of growth are more susceptible to control.
  • Apply maximum rate where pH is above 9.0, as high pH can reduce effectiveness. Treat early in the day. Waters will typically have lowest pH in the a.m. before plant photosynthesis begins.
