Plant Identification -- Floating Plants -- Yellow Water Lily |
YELLOW WATER LILY (Nuphar spp.)
Common Names: patterdock,Yellow Cow Lily
Treatment Tips: The stems of water lilies treatedwith 2,4-D characteristically elongate and the leaves curl up after 1 or 2 weeks. Because of the tough nature of the leaf and petiole tissue, disappearance of the plant altogether may take some time.
Description: Leaves large, heart-shaped, commonly 8 to 16 inches (20 to 40cm) long. Leaf veins extend laterally from the midrib. Flower is bright yellow, with a single row of petals. Spreads horizontally from rhizome similar to White Water Lily
Distribution: Prefer muck or silt bottom in stagnant, shallow areas. |
Recommended Control Method: Apply 150 to 200 lbs. Navigate per surface acre. Distribute granules evenly to assure effective control.
|
Alternate Control Methods: 2,4-D Liquid ester: (see label).
Shore-Klear: 3/4 gallon per surface acre (plus non-ionic surfactant).
Fluridone: various liquid or pelletized formulations (see label).
|
|
| Note: Navigate and 2,4-D treatments are only effective early in the season on new growth. Shore-Klear should be used where plants have already reached flowering stage. |
